Why Do I Teach?
I teach Yoga out of passion and not on a commercial basis. All profits earned from teaching Yoga are directed towards worthwhile charitable causes. I truly believe that it will be utterly selfish of me to keep the knowledge I have gained through my practice all to myself, however limited that knowledge may be. I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to dedicate my time to help others in their yogic journey. It may be that I can only help in a small way, but as they say "the Total is the sum of its parts".
How I found Yoga?
I found Yoga some 13 years ago, when I was recuperating from a
serious riding accident, which left me with a permanent pin in my left arm, and temporary loss of use of that same arm due to nerve damage.
Before the accident, I was an avid gym goer, with a
vigorous weights and cardio regime at least three times a week, as well as riding my horses every day. Returning to the gym routine after the accident was extremely difficult. Rather than helping to rebuild lost muscle and
fitness, I found that the gym work caused me even more muscle imbalance. That was when I reluctantly turned to Yoga. Like many people, I had the misperception that Yoga was about a bunch of bendy
ladies getting together chanting and 'om'ing. I was neither a dancer nor a gymnast so flexibility was not a strong point. A classic example of misguided misperception!
Once started, I never looked back! At the beginning it was just one session a week, slowly graduating to two, and now I practice Yoga everyday wherever I can.
What Yoga means to me?
Overtime, and I don't know exactly when, my physical yoga practice began to evolve and embrace the philosophical practice. Yoga is now an integral part of my life.
Physically, I am fitter, stronger and healthier than I have ever been before. My body heals itself very quickly and is able to fend off most viruses before they take hold of me. To the surprise of my
doctor and physio, my arm has gained a range of movement that exceeds that of a normal healthy person.
But most importantly, Yoga has opened my mind and taught me to see our world from "outside the box". With this change in my perception of the world, my whole world has
changed!
Everything in this life is possible, the only limitation is our very own preconceived ideas, the ways we have been moulded by societies to fit into the
norm.
